codefromtokyo is pleased to announce the release of Japanese 1.0 for Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. Containing more than 127.000 entries, "Japanese" is not only an incredibly fast and easy-to-use Japanese-English dictionary but also an invaluable study-aid for anyone interested in the Japanese language. It's also the only Japanese-English dictionary which completely works offline.
Upon start "Japanese" presents a user interface which resembles the Address Book of the iPhone. The user is able to either browse through the vocabulary or search for an entry. Searching works quickly and results appear within seconds. They are sorted by relevance to assist the user in chosing the right word.
Entries are displayed in their Japanese form along with a romanized transcription for those who are not yet familiar with Hiragana/Katakana (the Japanese alphabet). Verbs, adjectives and counters are displayed along with their conjugated forms.
"Japanese" is the only dictionary available for the iPhone which can display animations for Japanese characters (kanji). These animations show how to draw a kanji properly and are available for all 1945 daily-use kanji and and an extra 555 kanji used in Japanese names.
